CORONAVIRUSES
These are the number of viruses that cause diseases
in living things including diarrhea in cows and pigs and upper respiratory
disease in chickens. In humans, the virus causes respiratory infection, which is mild but lethal. There are no
vaccines or antiviral drugs discovered yet that prevent these coronaviruses.
Coronaviruses are viruses in the subfamily Orthocoronavirinae in the family Coronaviridae, in the order Nidovirales. Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses with a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome and with a nucleocapsid of helical symmetry. The genomic size of coronaviruses ranges from approximately 26 to 32 KB, the largest for an RNA virus.
History of Coronaviruses:
Coronaviruses were
discovered in the 1960s. The earliest ones discovered were in chickens and
two viruses from the nasal cavities of human patients with
the common disease that was later named Human Coronavirus. Other
members of this family have since been identified, including SARS-CoV , HCoV NL63 , HKU1 MERS-CoV and nCoV subsequently
in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2019. Most
of these can cause fatal respiratory infection.
On 31 December 2019, a
strain of coronavirus, officially designated by the WHO, was reported in Wuhan,
China. Yesterday, 25 were died because of this virus and 547 cases had been
identified in China. The Wuhan strain has been classified as a new strain
of Beta coronavirus. It is suspected
that the virus was not originated in human but in snakes, but many researchers
disagree it.
